Getting started with NetSnap Survey
From download to a finished report in eight steps.
Steps
-
Download the file and check its checksum
Download the .exe from the download page. Then check that it matches the SHA-256 checksum shown there. In PowerShell, in the folder you saved it to:
Get-FileHash .\netsnap-survey-*-windows-amd64.exe -Algorithm SHA256Use
windows-arm64in the name if you downloaded the ARM64 file. The hash it prints must match the checksum on the download page. -
Run it
Double-click the file. Until code signing is in place, Windows SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway.
-
Pick the subnet and name the site
Your browser opens. The subnet is pre-filled from your network. Check it, then give the site a name.
-
Confirm you are authorized and set a passphrase
Confirm you are authorized to scan this network. Then set a passphrase for the encrypted save.
-
Watch the results arrive
Devices stream in as they are found. Filter and search the list, and expand a row to see the evidence behind its device type.
-
Export your reports
Export the PDF for the client. Export CSV or JSON as well if you want them for your own documentation.
-
Finish and save
“Finish & save” writes an encrypted .netsnap file that you can reopen later with your passphrase.
-
Activate your license
Open the License panel and copy your Machine ID. Buy your license with that Machine ID, then upload the .lic file you receive in the License panel. The activation page has the details.
Troubleshooting
- The browser did not open. Use the link NetSnap Survey printed. Paste it into your browser.
- Few devices were found. Check for Wi-Fi client isolation on the network, a wrong subnet, or a firewall blocking the scan.
- A VPN is connected. Pick the right network adapter before you start the survey.
